HEADING

Heading refers to a word, phrase or sentence put at the top of a page, chapter, section, etc. of a book or other printed document.

These are sometimes written with initial capital letters (except for articles or prepositions) as in ‘Annual Report’, ‘Department Budget for the Year’, ‘What Went Wrong’, ‘Annual Plan’, and ‘Company Plans’ but this is a matter of taste or of in-house style.


Some people prefer to use lower-case letters except for the first word, as in ‘Sales targets for the year’, ‘A review of export markets’ and ‘The way forward’.

Headings can be underlined or placed in italic type or bold type to highlight them on the page.
