INTRODUCTORY ‘IT’
Introductory ‘it’ refers to the use of ‘it’ as the subject of a sentence in the absence of a meaningful subject.
It is used particularly in sentences about time and the weather, as in:
It is midnight.
It is dawn.
It is five o’clock.
It is twelve noon.
It is raining.
It was snowing.
It was windy.
It was blowing a gale.
